Motley Fool Bloggers: Movers and Shakers

The (beta) Motley Fool Blog Network is a year old (or close too).  Over this time, it has provided an opportunity for bloggers and writers to contribute articles suitable for syndication over their network and to the broader financial world.  Because it's a young platform, it has provided avenues for new contributors to break through into the blogging world.  Three contributors have already achieved writer contracts with the Fool, and one has taken an editorial position at the company (there may be more who have had success?).

Three writer contracts were awarded to: Brandy BetzDemitri Kalogeropoulos, and Steven Heller.  While Jamal Carnette joined as an Editor for the Fool Blog Network, working alongside existing employees Michael Finarelli, and Ralph Casale, and senior editor, Roger Friedman. Certainly, if you are interested in working or contributing for the Fool, you should follow these individuals to get a flavor of the Fool.

Over the course of the year, I have been tracking the progress of contributing bloggers as measured by the number of articles receiving Editorial merit.

Lets start with the basics.  Since the platform kicked off, 169 contributors have received an "Editor's Choice" award.  Of those 169, 121 have contributed at least one article in the last 4 months.  This is a 72% activity rate, which is very positive, given contributions are in the region of 500 words or more.

Within the 121 are a number of heavyweight publishers who have a significant presence on the site, both in terms of articles published, and Editor Choice awards. Again, if you are considering a career in financial writing, these people should be followed.  Unfortunately, I don't have Twitter handlers for people to follow - but if any of the featured authors do have a Twitter account, please feel free to post it in the comments thread.

In the next tier are the Up-and-Comers. These are Publishers with fewer than 100 articles, but have managed to accrue Editor Choice awards.  There are a few who have had all their articles receive Editor Choice Awards, but I have set a minimum bar of having at least 20 articles to rank as an Up-and-Comer.

No doubt, there are people who should be on the list, but aren't, who were excluded because I erred. This is very much a rough-and-ready analysis of the public available data on the Fool Blog Network.  The program is still in Beta stage, but gradually, contributors are finding their way into the professional ranks.  It will be interesting to hear their plans for next year.

If you are not part of the Network, but are interested in joining, then further details are available here.  If you are ready to rock-and-roll, you go straight to blogging here.  If you are not part of the program, but would like me to refer you, drop me a line (fallond-at-fallondpicks.com). I can take a look at your proposed articles and provide feedback; 93% of my articles have made the grade, although an Editor Choice award remains elusive!

On a final note, if you are looking for tools to help you discover stocks to write about, check out Zignals Alerts and Stock Screener.  Zignals Alerts have proven to be very popular for us, and using them (and any of our tools on site) is free.
